Clerestory

Definition 1: A vertical window, usually placed high on a building wall, that is used for light, ventilation, and to collect heat.

Definition 2: The purpose of clerestory window is to bring outside light, fresh air, or both into the inner space of a building.

Definition 3: Clerestory is an architectural term that historically denoted an upper level of a Roman basilica or of the nave of a Romanesque or Gothic church, the walls of which rise above the rooflines of the lower aisles and are pierced with windows.
