Light Pipe

Definition 1: Light pipes provide daylight to areas of buildings that are not adjacent to an external surface. The units consist of a metal tube with a very reflective internal surface. At the outer end of the tube a translucent material allows daylight to enter. The inner end of the tube is fitted with a diffuser to allow light to be distributed evenly within the space.

Definition 2: Light tubes or light pipes are used for transporting or distributing natural or artificial light. In their application to daylighting, they are also often called sun pipes, sun scopes, solar light pipes, sky lights or daylight pipes.
