Basis Of Design (BOD)

Definition: Basis of design typically consists of text paragraphs, preliminary drawings, equipment lists, etc. to provide the design information necessary to achieve a building owner's project requirements. BOD might include system descriptions, indoor environmental quality criteria, weather data, and references to applicable codes, standards, regulations and guidelines. Well-defined requirements consist of a set of statements that could form the basis of inspection and test acceptance criteria. The basis of design documentation and the specification identify how the design provides the performance and operational requirements of the project and its systems.
