IceStone Solid Surfaces

Source

IceStone is a durable surface made of 100 percent recycled glass in a cement matrix. Each slab is VOC-free, made in the USA, and holds Cradle to Cradle Gold Certification. IceStone’s glass and mother-of-pearl are recycled from post-industrial and post-consumer sources. IceStone is a healthy and environmentally responsible material for use on countertops, backsplashes and other areas where a solid surface is appropriate – and it’s 100 percent free of harmful plastics, toxic resins, and VOCs .

IceStone products have achieved the prestigious Gold level of Cradle to Cradle certification which is awarded by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC). Cradle to Cradle assesses products on a number of criteria, such as the use of safe and healthy materials, design for material reuse and recycling, efficient use of energy and water throughout production, and the instituting of strategies for social responsibility. At IceStone we manufacture our products with 100 percent recycled glass in a cement matrix, diverting hundreds of tons of glass from landfills each year. We operate out of a green renovated, day-lit factory in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, creating U.S. green jobs for workers in an eco-friendly, safe, and respectful environment.

Whether your project calls for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, desktops, or conference tables, IceStone offers you cutting-edge design and positive environmental results. IceStone products come in a variety of shades, ranging from soft, earth-toned neutrals to rich, saturated colors. Our color palette is versatile, simulating the natural landscape or harmonizing with your home or office décor. Our surfaces come with a high polish but can be honed or sandblasted to achieve your desired look and texture. IceStone surfaces do not fade with UV exposure.

In 2008, IceStone invested in a water recycling system to capture and reuse all process water from our manufacturing operations. Presently we offset 100 percent of our energy use with wind-power renewable energy certificates. IceStone’s water management principles are based on the Hannover Principles on Design for Sustainability and the Water Principles of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Waste generation from our facility is tracked and measured against reduction goals. Over 90 percent of our waste is recycled, repurposed or composted.

IceStone durable surfaces are suitable for many re-uses in a long life cycle. Fabricators will accept used IceStone surfaces and may cut a new piece. IceStone LLC accepts surfaces that are packaged and shipped back at the owner’s expense to IceStone LLC in Brooklyn, NY. IceStone surfaces are 100 percent recyclable via mechanical grinding and reforming. IceStone surfaces may also be repurposed into tiles, landscaping material and roadbed aggregate.

IceStone is a certified B Corporation and is certified by NSF International for NSF/ANSI-51 that indicates that IceStone has been approved for use in splash zone applications in food-related establishments.
